Painting the Crusader. There isn’t much fishing in May – instead, vessels are repaired and painted for the resumption of fishing in June. Work begins as soon as the tide is low enough and has to be completed (and dry) before the tide comes back in.

The Fishermen’s Mutual Association (Pittenweem) Ltd is the co-operative for fishermen operating out of the East Neuk of Fife, on the Firth of Forth in Scotland. Established in 1948, the F.M.A. is based in the traditional fishing village of Pittenweem, where it maintains the infrastructure that supports the thriving, local fishing industry. Owned by local fishermen, the F.M.A. plays an important role in supporting the sustainable exploitation of the natural marine resources that have supported the East Neuk of Fife for over 800 years.
